Beagles Rescues Breeders - Standard Description

Beagles have a long, full and broad head. The back of the skull is slightly domed. The muzzle is of medium length. It is square and well defined. The stop is slightly observable. Ears are long and low-positioned. They reach almost to the tip of the nose when drawn out. Beagles never hold the ears upright; the texture is gentle and not muscular. Beagles do not have flews; their lips are firm. Eyes are brown or hazel, kind and intelligent.

Body is strong and muscular. Neck is powerful and free. Shoulders are sloping, strong and unrestrained and chest is broad, roomy, well sprung and volumetric, but not barrel shaped. Back is not too long and sturdy. Loin is wide and slightly curved.

Front legs are straight and bony. Pasterns are short; feet are round and close. Heels are well padded. Muscular hind legs provide substantial driving power. Feet are firm and close, stifles strong and well let down. Hocks are tough and proportionate. Tail is high and curved, but not turned over the back. Coat is medium long and harsh. Colors are varied. Beagles usually come in white with black and tan splotches.

Size: height-13-15 inches, weight- 18-30 pounds.
Life span: 12-17 years, considered mature by age of 2 to 4 years.

Beagles Rescues Breeders - Temperament

Beagles are remarkably kind hearted and easy going. They are good with children, other dogs and animals and do not display aggression toward strangers. Meanwhile, these dogs are not timid, they like cheerful exercise, plays and physical activity. Beagles are inborn roamers, and you should not allow them to run on their own. Make sure the area is well fenced, because once a Beagle catches a scent trail, there is nothing to stop him and you may never see him again. Beagles need walked on leashes.
